[M42] Industar 50-2 50mm F3.5 Review – small pancake Russian lens but produces a sharp picture

Hiron
Hello, my name is hiron. I am a vintage lens addict. (Twitter / Youtube)

This time I review Industar 50-2 50mm F3.5.

Industar 50-2 50mm f / 3.5 is a Russian lens and a very small pancake lens. Nevertheless, the image is sharp.

I first learned about the lens structure of the Tesser type.

Industar 50-2 50mm F3.5 is a Russian lens with Tesser-type lens configuration

This Industar 50-2 50mm F3.5 lens configuration is a Tesser type. As a result, a sharp image is achieved.

“Tesser” is the name of Carl Zeiss lens. It seems that the lens configuration has become widespread in order for the lens “Tesser” to achieve a very sharp image.

Industar 61 I reviewed earlier is a “Tesser-type” lens as well. The name “Industar” seems to be attached to the Tesser-type Russian vintage lens.

Select a mount adapter (to use Industar 50-2 50mm F3.5 with a digital camera)

Industar 50-2 50mm F3.5 is M42 mount lens. A mount adapter is required to use the vintage lens with current digital cameras.

If you want to use Industar 50-2 50mm F3.5 with PENTAX digital SLR, you need a mount adapter called M42-PK. It is a thin adapter.

If you use this lens with a SONY mirrorless camera, you will need a mount adapter called M42-NEX.

I’m introducing the mount adapter installation procedure on YouTube video, so please refer to it.

Use a mount adapter suitable for your digital camera.

Here are some sample photos taken with the Industar 50-2 50mm F3.5. If you attach this lens to the SRL, you can see how small this lens is.

Rainbow flare created by Industar 50-2 50mm F3.5

Industar 50-2 50mm f / 3.5 creates a rainbow flare when used for shooting in backlighting conditions.

First I tried to see if this lens would cause rainbow flare. I took a picture at a park in my neighborhood.

Took a walk with Industar 50-2 50mm F3.5

Next, I took Industar 50-2 50mm F3.5 on SLR PNETAX K-7 and took a picture while taking a walk.

I was amazed at the sharpness of the photo with this lens. I don’t think it’s a photo taken with such a small lens.

On the other hand, the Bokeh that this lens creates is not very large. Bokeh is modest.

Industar 50-2 50mm F3.5 Review Summary

This time, I reviewed Industar 50-2 50mm F3.5.

Despite the small size of this lens, it produced a stunning photo. I liked this lens for a while and often used it for photography.

In addition, the Industar 50-2 50mm F3.5 is cheap, so I recommend it to those who are wondering about the next vintage lens to use.

Thank you for reading to the end.
