[Projector] Leica Leitz Wetzlar Colorplan 90mm F2.5 Review – similar to Elmarit-R 90mm F2.8 lens configuration

Hello, my name is hiron. I am a vintage lens addict. (Twitter / Youtube)

This time I review the projector lens Leitz Wetzlar Colorplan 90mm F2.5.

I was giving up that Leica lenses were too expensive to buy.

However, I found that this projector lens can get a Leica lens cheaply.

I had to think about how to modify this lens to mount the camera.

Leitz Colorplan 90mm F2.5 is a projector lens similar to Elmarit-R 90mm F2.8.

from ebay

I bought a Leitz Colorplan 90mm F2.5 on ebay.

According to information I researched online, this Leitz Colorplan 90mm F2.5 appears to have a lens configuration very similar to Elmarit-R 90mm F2.8.

Elmarit-R 90mm f / 2.8 costs around US $ 500, but you can buy this Leitz Colorplan 90mm f / 2.5 for less than US $ 100. Which do you buy?

That’s why I bought this projector lens.

I got a Leitz lens for the first time.

How can I install a Leitz Colorplan 90mm F2.5 on my camera?

However, the Leitz Colorplan 90mm F2.5 is a projector lens and cannot be used with a camera as it is.

How can I modify it to install it in a camera?

The Leitz Colorplan 90mm F2.5 I purchased had a helicoid. I wanted to use this.

When the metal inside the M42-NEX mount adapter was removed, the helicoids were settled. Unfortunately, it couldn’t be fixed alone, so we fixed it with rubber bands in between.

I can now use Leitz Colorplan 90mm F2.5 with a Sony mirrorless camera!

I do not use this projector lens with other mirrorless cameras. However, if you use the M42 mount adapter for mirrorless cameras, you can use this projector lens with cameras from other manufacturers.

Photo samples by Leitz Wetzlar Colorplan 90mm F2.5

In late March 2018, I used the projector lens Leitz Colorplan 90mm F2.5 to photograph cherry blossoms in the neighborhood.

Sony NEX-5R was used as the camera body.

The photo taken with this lens was so much that I couldn’t believe it was taken with a projector lens.

A little spiral Bokeh occurred in the photo. But that Bokeh is very soft.

The photo of the part in focus is very impressive.

I felt that this projector lens was strong against backlighting.

Bubble Bokeh, created by Leitz Colorplan 90mm F2.5, was completely different from Soap Bubble Bokeh from Pentacon AV.

Bubble Bokeh with this lens looks like a flat surface.

I photographed the sunbeams at the shrine. I used a Leica lens for the first time and I thought it was great.

Projector lens Leitz Wetzlar Colorplan 90mm F2.5 Review Summary

This time, I reviewed Leitz Colorplan 90mm F2.5.

This was the first Leica lens I used. However, because it is a projector lens, it needed some ingenuity to install on the camera.

The reflection is very wonderful. I feel like I saw Bokeh for the first time. This is a highly recommended lens.

If one day it comes true, I would like to compare it with the photo examples by Elmarit-R 90mm F2.8.

Thank you for reading to the end.
